Tiger Eye is a variety of quartz that forms through the pseudomorphic replacement of crocidolite (blue asbestos) fibers with silica. The chatoyant shimmer — called "cat's eye effect" — is caused by light reflecting off the parallel fibers within the stone. The finest Tiger Eye comes from South Africa and Western Australia. Ancient Egyptians used Tiger Eye in the eyes of their deity statues, believing it conveyed divine vision.
