Garnet is actually a group of related minerals rather than a single stone — there are over 20 species of garnet, ranging in color from deep red to orange, green, and even colorless. The most common variety is Almandine, which produces the classic deep red color. Garnet forms in metamorphic and igneous rocks under high heat and pressure. It's been used in jewelry and spiritual practice for over 5,000 years — ancient Egyptians, Romans, and medieval Europeans all prized it for its beauty and protective qualities.
