Meditation Begins With Noticing, Not Perfection
Meditation Begins With Noticing, Not Perfection
Many people believe they cannot meditate because their minds are too busy. Thoughts keep appearing, distractions interrupt the silence, and a perfectly calm mind can feel impossible to achieve.
Here is the good news: meditation does not require you to stop thinking.
Meditation begins when you notice your thoughts without judging yourself and gently return your attention to the present moment. Each return is not a mistake—it is the practice.
You Do Not Need a Perfectly Quiet Mind
The goal of meditation is not to force every thought to disappear. Our minds naturally think, remember, anticipate, and wander.
Instead of fighting that process, meditation invites us to observe it with kindness. We can notice a thought, acknowledge it, and allow it to pass without following it or criticizing ourselves for having it.
Then, we return to something happening right now—perhaps our breathing, the sensations in our bodies, or the sounds around us.
That simple act of returning helps us develop greater awareness, patience, and presence.
A Simple Meditation Practice
In this Mindful Monday video, I share a gentle introduction to meditation and guide you through a calming practice designed to support peace, presence, and clarity.
As you begin, find a comfortable position and allow your body to settle. You may close your eyes or soften your gaze.
Bring your attention to your breathing. There is no need to change it. Simply notice each inhale and exhale.
When a thought appears, observe it without judgment. Then gently guide your attention back to your breath.
Your mind may wander many times—and that is okay. Each time you notice and return, you are practicing mindfulness.
A Quiet Moment to Reset
Meditation does not have to be lengthy or complicated to be meaningful. Even a few intentional minutes can create space between you and the demands of the day.
You can return to this meditation whenever you need to:
-
Pause and breathe
-
Release some tension
-
Regain your focus
-
Reconnect with yourself
-
Begin again with a clearer intention
You do not have to wait until life feels peaceful to practice meditation. Sometimes meditation is how we create a little peace within the life we already have.
Choose Peace This Week
After completing the practice, take a moment to notice how you feel. You may feel calmer, more grounded, or more aware of what you need. You may simply feel proud that you made time for yourself.
Whatever you experience is welcome.
Share your reflection in the video comments, or write:
“I choose peace.”
Let that statement become your intention for the week—a reminder that even when you cannot control everything happening around you, you can pause, breathe, and choose how you meet the moment.
